1 Sister, 2 Weeks, & a $3 (or less) Sale!

My sister is visiting for just a few more days – she’s come with her wee troupe from Europe for 2 weeks. After not seeing each other in more than 4 years(!!!!), we’ve been absorbing as much as we can of each other, knowing it may be a couple years before we see each other again.

A Sister Like You

I don’t know if it’s because I miss her fiercely when she’s gone (I thank God for FaceTime/Facebook Video/Skype!), but my books almost always seem to have sisters, or sister-ish friendships in them – have you noticed? There’s just something about sisters, about the relationships between women of different ages and walks of life, that makes me want to write about them!

The timing of this visit on the heels of having just completed The Gustafson Girls Series feels celebratory and rather providential, don’t you think? The key players in Pemberton Manor are sisters as well, and my next series, the one I’m just beginning to really sink my teeth into, has another cast of sisters – triplets!

So, dear readers, I hope you enjoy sisters as much as I do – I can’t seem to get enough of them!

Would you be willing to help me celebrate? If you’ve read any of my books, I’d raise a loud “HUZZAH!!” to you if you’d leave a review or two. Your review – good, bad, or indifferent! – is one of the highest compliments you can offer an author, because it says to the world that you thought a book was important enough to talk about, even after the last page was turned.

Lullaby Sky by Carolyn Brown - What I'm Listening to - Becky Doughty

The Lullaby Sky by Caroyln Brown

After seven years of misery and abuse, it’s all over—Hannah O’Malley is officially divorced. Hallelujah. It’s like every Christmas in her life all rolled up into one glorious day. Not only does Hannah get to keep her grandmother’s spacious old house, but she has full custody of her sparky five-year-old daughter. All Hannah has to do now is put the past behind her.

And now that she’s free, she wants to make a difference. With the help of her warm, close-knit circle of friends—including her high school crush, Travis Wilson—Hannah begins turning her home into a safe house for other women who’ve endured the pain she’s known. But even as life and laughter return to Hannah’s home, she’s haunted by the memory of her dangerously unstable ex. With a second chance at love on the horizon, Hannah must face down her past in order to let the sunshine back into her life.

Becky here: I’m a fan of Carolyn Brown’s Women’s Fiction (more so than her cowboy romances, although they’re quite entertaining), with her quirky small town characters and circumstances, and the way she paints multi-generational family – in particular, women – relationships. This book is also about another subject near to my heart – breaking the chains and cycles of domestic violence – and the way women can reach out to each other, even from a place of brokenness, and in so doing, find healing themselves.

Brittany Pressley is my absolute favorite Carolyn Brown narrator – I always know I’m going to enjoy her presentation – so the audiobook option was a no-brainer for me.
