Summer Sun… Some Are Just Plum Crazy!

Plum crazy…that’s us!

It’s stone fruit season in our neck of the woods, and we are just plum crazy about our home grown plums…sun-warmed right off the branch, or chilled from the fridge. What we can’t eat fresh, we turn into plum syrup, plum jam, and plum preserves.

Some are just plum crazy - Becky Doughty

We also have nectarines, apricots, and peaches this time of year, and we’re anxiously awaiting fall when we get to pick pomegranates and apples, followed by oranges, tangerines, lemons and lime come winter.

Funny story…

Our Captain Jones likes plums, too. I mean, he really likes them and will suck them down in seconds if we aren’t paying close enough attention. Yep, he swallowed a plum pit. Fortunately, it was a small one and still covered in fruit, so we were told to just make certain it came out the other end.

So we waited…and watched…and it did.

And to commemorate the event, we planted the already pre-fertilized plum seed, temporarily in a pot to make sure it sprouts.

So now we wait…and watch…and then we’ll plant Captain Jones’ plum tree to commemorate!

You know, I’ve heard that some people put up stone cairns… or statues… or donate large sums of money to commemorate…

Yep. Just plum crazy.

We’re enduring a record heatwave this summer, one that comes after a record wet winter (desperately needed as we’ve been enduring severe drought conditions for years now), which has created record numbers and sizes of critters in our garden.

Black Widow Bench Warmer - Becky Doughty

This black widow made itself comfy on the back of my garden bench where I like to sit! By the looks of the leftovers still tangled in its web, it had been there awhile. I’ve seen a lot of black widows in my life, and this is a record breaker for me. The abdomen was the size of a standard marble…with the emphasis on the word was.

Because it is no more.

Secrets of the Tulip Sisters by Susan Mallery

From the New York Times best-selling author of Daughters of the Bride comes the charming tale about the problem with secrets, the power of love, and the unbreakable bond between sisters.

Audible ~ Amazon ~ iTunes ~ Barnes & Noble

Becky here: You know me – I love all things sisters. I’m enjoying this book primarily because of the roller coaster sister relationship portrayed, the small town characters, and the wonderful tulip farm setting. I’m listening to this one – Tanya Eby is always an engaging narrator.

Disclaimer: I consume 150-200 books per year from many different genres. This book is General Market Women’s Fiction/Romance.

That’s it from me for now. I have family visiting, so I’ve been soaking up as much time as I can with these precious people.

Always…with hope,
